Children of Fiji

Half of the proceeds from the 2013 DRFC Spring Ball raffle were donated to Children of Fiji to help John Wesley College Rugby Academy in Suva fund the purchase of their own weight training equipment to improve their strength conditioning training. A number of ex-DRFC tackle training shields were also donated.

Taniela Savou, 7s Rugby Academy Co-ordinator at the college wrote:

"Sir, on behalf of the School Administrators, we would like to convey our sincere gratitude for your tremendous donation to the Rugby Academy. The School Principal is very grateful for the donation on behalf of Dorchester Rugby Club".

He subsequently wrote again with an update following some resultant success for the college on the rugby field:

"We would like to thank you for the donation from the Dorchester Rugby Club. The John Wesley Rugby Academy has reaped the benefit and as a result became the Unbeaten Team in the Southern Zone Rugby Union Competition."

If any members know of any previously used and/or surplus rugby kit or sports training equipment that might be suitable for the boys at John Wesley Academy then please contact Peter & Margaret Long of the Children of Fiji charity who send donated items out to Fiji by air fright several times a year and a shipping container of heavy items annually in June - donations of second-hand kit will be very gratefully received by the school who struggle to afford it otherwise.
