Chairmans Report 2009/10 Season

Junior Season end of Season 2009 – 10

Well what a year it’s been, who would have thought that we were going to have such a long cold spell followed by the rain. Now we are suffering for lack of wet stuff.

The club continues to thrive with our registrations maintaining if not increasing in numbers, most age groups are well represented, but we could still do with  more under 13’s (next years 14’s) so please speak with your friends and see what you can do.

Last summers Socious camp was possibly the best attended yet with over 80 young people being taught rugby by Professionals from South Africa, Australia and Fiji. The week was a real success not only for the club but also those who attended, what other chance do you have? to have your son or daughter taught by such highly qualified and experienced Coaches. We have booked for this summer so please get your names down now.  This is a fantastic opportunity. See the Socoius page

We took full advantage of the cold weather and Frozen pitches to organise a Coach training session back in January, even the coaches need to learn and update on changes and safeguarding issues. We had a good turn out, perhaps encouraged by the bait of one of Dave & Karan’s Breakfasts.

This years festival was a really well supported day and showed what a great club we do have here. We must have had over 400 young people at the club playing rugby that Sunday, a really worthwhile day for the whole club.

We have seen some really good rugby played by our teams over the past Season, with some really resounding wins both at home and away. Sadly none of the teams managed to bring the county cup back to Dorchester

Special congratulations must go to Callum King for his outstanding achievements at the School of rugby and getting to Bath academy. Well done to all those players who got selected to attend County trials, a great honour for you and the club. The U 15s also made up the bulk of Thomas hardy School U 15s who reached the 4th Round of The Daily Mail National Cup, the furthest the school has reached at any level.

Congratulations to the Under 12’s who picked up the plate at the Chippenham Festival.

We must try and encourage our Club, our coaches, our players to promote the good work that they all do, just looking through the web site, only the under 12’s and 15’s have regular match reports attached. This site is our shop window where potential new members looking to join the club, go to see what is happening at Dorchester rugby club.

We need to promote our club with more match reports, pictures and features in the local papers, why should Weymouth take all the glory when they are only half the club that we are.

We also want more people to volunteer to help and support the club. No knowledge of rugby is needed just a willingness and desire to be part of something, part of a growing and developing club.

Thanks to Pete Gerrard and all the St John volunteers, without them you could not play rugby. They turn up in all weathers and every Sunday for no reward.

We are all extremely grateful to our Coaches, team managers and all those who turn up regularly for evening training and Sunday matches. Without such support and commitment you would not have a club so thank you all.

Having taken over with very little Rugby knowledge I would like to thank a number of people who have helped me over the past year, Judith Barnsley, Victoria Peel, Andrew Smith, Peter Grassby, Dave Harris, Roger Clark.

My Thanks to all the committee for the support and help over the past 12 months.

I look forward to next September  and registration day which will soon be here.
