DRFC Junior Section Rugby Camp 2007

60 children aged from 6-16 enjoyed a unique rugby experience at Dorchester Rugby
club. 4 coaches (2 from New Zealand and 2 from Fiji) spent 5 days coaching the
youngsters new skills, including passing, tackling and rucking. With the coaches
all coming from the Southern Hemisphere this enabled the participants to learn
new techniques which will hopefully inspire and influence them throughout their
sporting lives.
The children also learnt about the history and significance of the New Zealand
Maori Haka - (watch
the video) which they performed in front of their families on
the final day, along with the Fijian Cibi -

Chair of Dorchester RFC Junior Section, Andrew Smith said “ this has been a
fantastic week for all those that have attended. All the players have worked
hard but always with a smile on their faces. I am extremely grateful to Lead
Coach Charlie Ihaka and Socious Sports for all their hard work and support which
has helped to make this event such a success”. Plans are already underway for
another camp during the summer of 2008.
The new season is about to start. Any child interested in playing or learning
how to play rugby should contact Andrew Smith on 01305 261922. Alternatively
turn up at the clubs ground, at the top of Coburg Road on a Sunday between 10
