Dorset & Wilts Cup Final

Dorchester 7- 3 Devizes

Dorset & Wilts Cup Winners - Dorchester U 14's

Dorchester’s Rugby Club Under 14's Rugby side fresh from victories in the Dorset County Cup Final, The J P Morgan Bath invitation 7’s and The Bournemouth Festival completed a fantastic month of rugby by winning the Dorset and Wilts cup at the weekend. Their earlier victory in the Dorset County Cup meant that they had the opportunity of competing for the Dorset and Wilts cup by playing Devizes, the Wiltshire County winners. This is unique in the RFU County set up so they became the only under 14 side to be crowned the best team in two Counties.

The Final was played at Warminster on Sunday and Dorchester faced a Devizes side with an excellent reputation for fast flowing Rugby. They did not disappoint. The dangerous Devizes left wing seemed to be the target for most of their game plan moves and as he made several surges towards the try line however Dorchester’s right wing Jamie Brown was able to match him for speed and on every occasion he was tackled into touch.

Devizes blindside flanker also played an important part in their attacking game, however Dorchester defensive game plan proved too strong to allow Devizes to breakthrough. Dorchester Fly-Half Caspar Bailey played an extremely good tactical kicking game, this was made even more impressive when it was later revealed that he had played the entire match with a broken toe. With a highly contested first half neither teams were able to put any points on the board.

The second half proved more exciting with Dorchester’s back row of James Thompson, Jack Warburton and Theo Boyeson tackling relentlessly. However, Devizes were awarded a penalty on the Dorchenter 10 meter line and took the decision to open the scoring; this was a successful kick resulting in Devising leading with the first points of the game. With ten minutes remaining Dorchester put Devizes under pressure and on the back foot, two penalties were awarded in favour of Dorchester, which were bravely run rather than kicked as Dorchester went for the try to win the game rather than the Penalty goal to tie it. Their adventure was rewarded as captain Jack Warburton attacked the open side-feeding wing Jamie Brown to score. Caspar Bailey added the conversion.

Lead coach Gordon Harding complimented the Devizes team for their never give up attitude, and for both teams exceptional conduct during this very physical and competitive final. Harding also stated that this has been a remarkable season for boys and their dedication and commitment showed at training and our Teamwork ethos in the games played is what has brought home the silverware to Dorchester rugby club.

The squad comprised; Jack Warburton (Capt), Luke Robson, Lee Sawyer, Jamie Gannaway, Freddie Biles,Marcus Sams,Joe Waterman, Will Caldwell, Dan Allen, James Thompson, Theo Boyson, Jake Bosher, Caspar Bailey,  Ben Wellman, Ryan Haskell,George Foot, Will Channon, Jamie Brown, Toby Ingram, Jack Cartwright, Tim Williams and Henry Bradbury

Bournemouth and Poole Festival

Bournemouth Festival Winners: Dorchester U14's

Dorchester’s Under 14 Rugby side fresh from victories in the Dorset County Cup Final and the J P Morgan Bath invitation 7’s tournament took part in the Bournemouth Festival played over two days and completed an impressive hat trick by winning the event beating Exeter Chiefs in the final 17-0.

They completed the weekend by winning all 8 matches scoring 249 points and not conceding any. The format was 15 a side normal rules of rugby but for games of 10 minutes each way with all teams playing each other with the first two in the league playing the final. On paper the opposition looked strong with not only teams from Premiership club Exeter but also Bletchley, Eastbourne, Maidstone, Crawley, Chelmsford and a previously unbeaten Old Leamingtonians. The first game on day one was against Eastborne with Dorchester playing excellent fast flowing rugby winning 24-0.

The second game was played against tournament favourites Exeter Chiefs with Dorchester running out surprisingly easy victors by 22-0. A 38-0 thumping of Eastborne left Dorchester with the last match of the day against Old Leamingtonians who had looked good in their previous matches and early research had showed them to have had an impressive unbeaten season. In a good contest Dorchester scored the only two tries of the game to win 10-0.

The second day began with a nursing of tired bodies through a gentle warm up. The first game against Crawley saw Dorchester play their best rugby of the weekend with their opponents hardly being allowed to touch the ball, running in10 tries in a 58-0 demolition. Chelmesford provided limited opposition in another 52-0 rout. The final league game against a physically strong Blechley side saw Dorchester start slowly but then gather momentum to win comfortably in the end by 28-0. Exeter Chiefs had beaten Old Leamingtonians by a single score in their last match to finish second in the league behind the unbeaten Dorchester side.

The two teams then met in the final with Dorchester having the all important physiological advantage. The game followed a similar pattern to the earlier encounter with Dorchester scoring an early try and then exerting pressure on their opponents recycling ball over several phases never letting them into the match. Two further tries in the second half secured a famous victory.

A feature of this Dorchester side is its all round ability with backs and forwards linking in support of one another. There were several outstanding individual performances but credit in the end must go to the entire squad of 23.

The squad comprised; Jack Warburton, Luke Robson, Lee Sawyer, Marcus Sams, Will Cauldwell, Dan Allen, James Thompson, Theo Boyson, Jake Bosher, Caspar Bailey, George Foot, Ben Wellman, Ryan Haskell, Will Channon, Jamie Brown, Toby Ingram, Jack Cartwright, Joe Waterman, Jamie Gannaway, Tim Williams, Henry Bradbury, Freddie Biles and Kieren Mitchell

Cup Final: Dorchester 5 v 0 Wimborne

The Dorset County Cup Final was played on Sunday Morning at Bridport RFC in very wet and windy conditions between Dorchester and Wimborne. Despite the conditions which made attacking running rugby virtually impossible both sides played with a determination and skill level far in excess of the normal standard expected at this age group. The large crowd was entertained by a closely fought game played in excellent spirit.

Dorchester won the toss and chose to play with the slight wind advantage. In truth the heavy breeze was principally across the pitch which favoured neither side. Wimborne therefore kicked off and having fielded the ball Dorchester’s captain, Jack Warburton immediately made the first of his numerous telling runs at the heart of the defence. He was eventually held up and Wimborne were awarded the all important first scrum of the game. This invariably offers one side the opportunity to gain psychological advantage over the other. It was Dorchester who grasped this opportunity by pushing their opponents off the ball to win the scrum against the head.

This front row dominance of Marcus Sams, Lee Sawyer and Luke Robson was to continue throughout the match. Within five minutes Dorchester won a quick ruck on the halfway line and tenacious scrum half Jake Bosher fed his half back partner Caspar Bailey who took the ball down the blind side, he fed right wing Jamie Brown who still had plenty to do. He evaded his opposite number with quick footwork but still had 30 metres to go. The cover defence failed to stop him as he used the wet conditions to slide the last few metres to score in the corner. Caspar Bailey narrowly missed the long conversion from the touchline. Wimborne, boasting several County players in their line up, were stung by this and responded well. Excellent midfield defence however by Bailey and his two centres George Foot and Ryan Haskell meant that Dorchester’s line was rarely threatened and Wimborne’s much vaunted back line were unable to make any clear line breaks.

As the half progressed Dorchester were securing virtually all of the set piece possession with Second Row Dan Allen winning the majority of the line-outs, confident on his own ball and stealing the oppositions throws. This forced Wimborne into throwing long which in the wet and windy conditions was always doomed to failure. It was only the high penalty count awarded against Dorchester that gave Wimborne any quality possession as at the breakdown Dorchester’s back row of Theo Boyeson, James Thompson and Jack Warburton were invariably first to the tackled player. Wimborne’s tactic of only committing small numbers to the breakdown led to them being pushed off the ball when faced with excellent  counter-rucking. The first half ended with the score still at 5-0.

The first fifteen minutes of the second half was again played mostly in Wimborne’s half with forceful running by Dorchester’s full back, Jack Cartwright and Wings Toby Ingram and Jamie Brown matched by strong tackling by the Wimborne back three. The resultant phases being carried on by determined charges by Luke Robson and Dan Allan and one or two dummies by second row Will Caldwell. Every metre was hard fought and as the game neared the end both sets of forwards were unrecognisable, covered from head to foot in mud. Wimborne came back into the match in the final five minutes but their inability to win any scummage going forward hampered their progress.

In the final seconds Dorchester won a scrum in their own 22, the referee shouted last play and centre George Foot had the presence of mind to kick the ball into touch ending the game. Dorchester had won by the slender margin of just the one score.Dorchester had won the game by virtue of an excellent all round team performance by all fifteen players however mention should also be made of the other squad members who supported and encouraged throughout. The coaching team felt that in the cold and wet conditions it would have been unfair to add any fresh faces to the fray so they remained on the touchline. The other team members were; Will Channon, Tim Williams, Henry Bradbury, Joe Waterman, Jamie Gannaway, Jamie Russell, Ben Wellman, Alfie Borland and Kieran Mitchell. Fred Biles was also in attendance but an untimely tendon injury meant he was unable to play.

Team Co-Ordinator Andy Whale says, our team performed extremely well in very difficult conditions and both teams gave their all.  It was a very exciting game which was contested until the very end. Forwards Coach’s Richard Warburton and Graeme Caldwell praised their forwards for the packs commitment and determination at the breakdown and scrum. Backs Coach’s Mike Sams and Tony Foot were delighted with the performance from their halfbacks, centres and back three who were not able to play their fast ball attack and dynamic ball carrying game due to the weather conditions. Lead Coach Gordon Harding paid tribute to Wimborne players for their determination and never give up attitude and said “at Dorchester Rugby Club we are very fortunate to have an U14's squad that work hard at training, enjoy their rugby, are very focussed on the importance of team work to deliver success and are naturally gifted players' we now look forward to playing the Wiltshire U14’s for the Dorset and Wilts Cup.

New Milton 5 v 19 Dorchester Perfect February weather greeted the travelling Dorchester players at this impressive set up at New Milton. Teas and coffees were taken on the balcony of the clubhouse as New Milton youngsters across the whole age range went through their paces on the pitches below.

The match was to be played as one of three “halves” of 20 minutes each. Dorchester had Casper Bailey and Jack Warburton absent on County duty and Ryan Haskell out injured.

New Milton kicked off and applied early pressure. A good tackle by Tim Williams was necessary to prevent an early try for New Milton. The opposition switched play across the pitch well and nearly pushed over between the posts. Jack Cartwright then showed his usual turn of speed down the left wing but was matched on this occasion by good New Milton defending. A very even game was developing. The referee was clearly not allowing much to go by and penalized both sides for handling infringements in the ruck and coming in from the side. Despite the 0 - 0 score line Dorchester ended the period strongly. Jake Bosher featured strongly at the break down and Toby Ingram offered attacking options.

Second half… At this point it seemed like this was the sort of game that would be won by a breakaway try, such was the evenness. However, a minute and a half into the second half Dorchester scored; the ball being pushed over by Marcus Sams after tremendous pressure applied by Theo Boyeson and Lee Sawyer, who had replaced the injured Luke Robson. George Foot converted from between the posts. Dorchester 7 – 0 New Milton. From the restart New Milton applied pressure and nearly made the try line but resolute defending by Dorchester saved the moment.

The referee regularly advised both sides about scrum technique. Advice about binding and pushing before the ball was put in were common issues. New Milton continued to offer a threat and the outcome of the game at this stage remained in doubt. Great tackling by Theo Boyeson prevented a likely scoring opportunity for New Milton. Jack Cartwright continued as a threat but was contained more than usual by the strong New Milton defence. Dan Allen also was evident in taking a New Milton player out in to touch when a try opportunity looked on the cards. From a dangerous position Dorchester defended with a passion and James Thompson was showing some tremendous spirit in the tackle. Dorchester had a scare when an unusually weak ruck resulted in a New Milton player breaking out and kicking the ball towards Dorchester’s try line. Confusion reigned as the referee hadn’t been up with play and a claimed try was not given. However, after 13 minutes of the second half New Milton did score a try after a series of handling errors by Dorchester players. New Milton failed to convert from a difficult angle. Dorchester 7 – 5 New Milton.

Into the third period. Luke Robson now back on the field. Good running and driving from Dorchester regularly with Dan Allen prominent was always a threat. Will Caldwell seemed to be enjoying a free role in attack at this stage in the game. From a New Milton infringement Luke Robson and James Thompson pushed forward strongly but were unlucky to lose possession. Jamie Brown scored a well worked try following extremely good passing movement involving George Foot and Will Channon. George Foot converted. Dorchester 14 – 5 New Milton. Tim Williams prevented another dangerous move down the left. Dan Allen continued to be a power house in the middle of the park and again made many yards of ground to frustrate the New Milton team. Dan Allen laid off to Will Caldwell and together with Tim Williams made a strong foray forwards to keep New Milton out of the danger area. James Thompson made a great tackle and took the ball forward but was unfortunate to lose possession himself when in a dangerous position. More possession by Dorchester forced an error by New Milton as Will Caldwell scored an opportunist’s try as he caught the ball in the air and in one movement took it over the line for a well deserved third try to essentially seal the match. George Foot  unfortunately missed the conversion on this occasion. Dorchester 19 - 5 New Milton. Dorchester ended strongly with a good move down the left wing involving Jamie Brown and Jack Cartwright.

This was a tremendously entertaining match for which both sides should be applauded and was closer than the score reflects. The Dorchester team ethic and fitness were the outstanding features of the game. Well done everyone! Man of the match award deservedly went to Dan Allen.

Weymouth 5 v 22 Dorchester

Cold morning at Weymouth RFC, the DRFC pitch being too frozen to play on. Jack Warburton (Skipper) Lost the toss and Dorchester received down field. Clean catch from James Thompson was offloaded down field only to then be turned over in a strong ruck by Weymouth. Strong tackle from Jack Cartwright relived pressure from Weymouth. One ruck in the bottom corner lead to Fly- Half George Foot being injured inside Dorchester’s own 5 metre line with a painful injury to the neck and lower back which unfortunately ended his game.

Jamie Brown was then put Fly Half moving from Centre. Strong attacking from Weymouth then lead to the first try in the corner. Not Converted. 5-0. Dorchester came back with heads up and then with some fantastic running Jack Cartwright was able to score in the corner. Not Converted. 5-5. Strong Rucking by Marcus Sams, Joe Waterman , Freddie Biles and Luke Robson for Dorchester equalled Weymouth but then the ball was passed down field with some great play to get to Ryan Haskell Who broke through the Weymouth Defence to score a brilliant try under the posts. Not converted. 5-10. Weymouth kick off and with a clean catch from Theo Boyesen followed by strong passing down the back line Dorchester looked certain to score again but as Dorchester neared the try line the ref blew for half time.

Second half.

Dorchester Kick off and with immediate strong mauling force Weymouth back ending with a great run and try by Jack Warburton. Not converted. 5-15. Weymouth came back strong against Dorchester with determination but Dorchester held with strong defence from among others Dan Allen (who had a good game throughout ). Good running from Luke Robson after a Lineout supported by Freddie Biles was unfortunately knocked on. Luke was subbed off due to a bleeding nose. Up until this point Dorchester had the best of the scrums but the scrums were now uncontested. After some strong running from Ben Wellman, Jamie brown, Tim Williams and Toby Maguire a Dorchester scrum was called just short of the Weymouth line. And Number 8 Theo Boyesen picked up off the back of the scrum and dived towards the line with help from back row James Thompson and Jack Warburton but was unfortunately held up. More strong running from Scrum half Jake Boscher and Marcus Sams (good to see ) but ball was knocked on. Weymouth Scrum. As the scrum was uncontested Weymouth hooked the ball very comfortably but it didn’t matter because Fly half Jamie Brown made a fantastic tackle on the Weymouth fly half which then lead to a try out of the back of the ruck by Jamie Brown who dived under the posts. Jack Warburton Converted making the final score 5-22.

Dorchester’s superior fitness began to show as the second half went on (those gym sessions starting to work maybe )
Man of the match Jake Boscher due to Strong running, good hands, effective tackles and great organisation throughout the game.
Regards to George Foot, recover soon from his injury.

Dorchester  26 – 5 Swanage and Wareham
Weather condition: Cloudy and Foggy
Dorset County Cup Semi - Final!
Jack Warburton, skipper, won the toss and chose to receive.
Some great early Scrums from an aggressive Dorch Pack showed Swans who was boss! Some suburb tackles flying in from Jack Warburton, Jamie Brown and Toby Ingram really gave Dorchester an edge in the opening 10 minutes. Now for the first forwards part of the game plan (Green Ball called) was expertly executed by Dan Allen with close support from Jack Warburton and Jack Cartwright! A penalty was given inside their 22 and 15 metres in. Jack Warburton had the ball and Swans fell asleep (always a bad thing when he’s got the ball). We had many men over! A chip across field was a risky option but chose to be a wise one. Nimble Toby Ingram snatched the ball up and was in in the corner! Dorch could not switch off though as numerous attacks from there forwards hit us but awesome defence from Theo Boyeson, James Thompson and Ryan Haskell kept them out. We had all to play for in the 2nd half …

The team talk at half time was intense and motivational!   7-0
Dorch won their own scrum thanks to secure bases from Lee Sawyer and good driving from Dan Allen and Will Caldwell. Good hands and running from Caspar Bailey and Ryan Haskell enabled Toby Ingram to reveal his pace down the wing scoring his and Dorch’s 2nd score of this tight match! The conversion was unsuccessful.  12-0
The pack were really finding their stride, winning another scrum and unleashing Caspar Bailey down the centre of the park, making another precious 20 meters.
Another successful line out won by Dan Allen this time a Red Ball called!
All of our backs getting over the gain line: Jack Cartwright and Ryan Haskell this time took it up to a 5 metre line out. A scrappy line out led to loose ball. Jack Warburton seized this perfect opportunity, determinedly crashing through the Swans line. A positive kick from Caspar Bailey made the score 19-0.
Some textbook mauling by the forwards gained precious yards. A flying boot injured Jake Bosher badly but he carried on like a man. This wound up the boys (the injury) which made them more determined with controlled aggression. This all happened but this didn’t stop Ryan Haskell making a beautiful 60 metre run. Just before he was about to dive under the posts the ref brought the game back inside there 22 for a scrum (due to the injury)! Slightly frustrating. Rich Warburton’s new calls came to good use as Theo Boyeson picked and drove blind and gained 15 meters backed up by James Thompson  and Jack Warburton – what a unit! Is he the fastest man on earth? Jack Cartwright just trots in for an awesome try leaving every Swans player dazzled and stunned! Great kicking from Caspar gave a good position. 26-0

Freddie ‘Badman’ Biles had some great hooking but awesome tackles as well! Tense times for Dorch as the ref give numerous penalties to Swans 10 metres from the line! Tempers started to flair after some shocking football skills from their prop!  The clearance kick wasn’t quite enough and Swans ran back at us, using the width well, scoring in the corner. The kick went well wide. 26-5.
A good kick out of touch sealed the game for the Greens and the celebrations began!
Man of the match for great passes and bravery: Jake Bosher.
So overall: FINAL HERE WE COME! We can win whoever we face!
Keep the positive chat up!
Tour will be INSANE!

WELL DONE EVERYONE !!!

DRFC Under 14s Match report for 22nd January 2012

Ellingham and Ringwood 7 - 38 Dorchester

It was a cold and blustery day in Ringwood. An eventful start when captain Jack Warburton forgot his boots!! It was the first time Dorchester had ever played Ringwood and Ellingham and Dorchester were eager for the win.

An even start with Ringwood looking quite strong with some fast backs that weren’t going too be easy to stop.

Jack Warburton scored a quick penalty helped by consistent pressure from the Dorchester pack.

Caspar Bailey Converted 0-7

A Jack Warburton run from the kick off with support from Luke Robson and Theo Boyesen led to a 5 metre scrum. The forwards dominated and put into play their newly developed green ball scrum that worked really well and Will Caldwell made a characteristically powerful drive for the line and scored

0-12

After some strong forward play the ball was pass right down the line for left wing Toby Ingram to score.

Caspar Bailey Converted 0-19

Caspar Bailey made a surging run through the defence to play a lovely one two with flanker Jack Warburton who scored

Some strong runs came from Eliingham and Ringwood, however strong tackles from Ryan Haskell, Jamie Brown and James Thompson created opportunities for Caspar Bailey to put down his second of the match.

Caspar Bailey Converted 0-31

Good counter rucking from Dan Allen and James Thompson created space for full back Jamie Brown to sprint in from his own 22 and score under the posts.

Caspar Bailey Coverted 0-38

After sustained pressure from Ringwood a penalty conceded by Dorchester lead to a well deserved try.

7-38

After a spectacular turnover from Henry Bradbury, Ryan Haskell picked and drove ten metres only to be held a metre before the line.

Overall a wonderful performance from the whole team but especially Henry Bradbury who was given man of the match. Spot on kicking from Caspar Bailey led to many points for Dorchester. The Forwards scrum was powerful and dominant.

Dorset U14’s Cup - Dorchester 42 v Lytchett 10

Lytchett beat Oakmedians 63-0 in the first round of the cup and arrived with a different squad following the defeat by Dorchester two weeks ago.  Lytchett put Dorchester under early pressure and used their pack to win ball at the breakdown with them dominating the ruck.

Dorchester showed their strength and managed to win both of their early scrums.  It was clear that Lytchett had learned from their recent defeat and their cover tackling out wide was much improved.  Following a penalised short throw at the Lytchett lineout and a kick downfield by Caspar Bailey, Jamie Brown managed to score an early try.

With a cold wind and very heavy rain the ball became slippery and both teams suffered handling mistakes.  Toby Ingram made a good run toward the line after Jack Warburton played the ball wide but Lytchett cover tackling was good again.  Dorchester were judged offside following a Lytchett scrum but managed to recover the ball and play it out wide where Jamie Brown went over to score his second try.

Lychett took the ball from Dorchester following the restart and put Dorchester under pressure scoring their first try 13 minutes into the half.  Ryan Haskell worked hard with his short forward runs and made several good tackles foiling Lytchett in attack.  Following a good run by Jake Bosher and good team driving support George Foot went for the line and scored Dorchester’s third try 19 minutes into the half.

The restart became a feature of Lytchett play with the forwards pressurising Dorchester from short kicks.  Dan Allen took the ball well supported by Fred Biles but the Dorchester forwards were driven back by the Lytchett.   The ball was recycled with Dorchester winning possession; Caspar Bailey ran through the Lytchett defence and scored his first try just before half time.  20-5.

Early into the second half saw Jack Warburton made a storming run supported by Caspar Bailey who scored and converted his second try.  Lychett lost the ball from their own scrum after good Dorchester pressure, Will  Caldwell played the ball wide, the ball was passed well down the line, good rugby played by Dorchester and Jake Bosher scores his first try for the club.

Jamie Brown makes the best run of the half so far with a couple of good hand offs but the move is cut short by a forward pass.  Luke Robson shows his strength driving over and wins the ball in the ruck.  Another good driving scrum from Dorchester, who have consistently won their own scrum ball and a percentage of Lytchett’s.  The ball is passed down the line Jack Wraburton makes a couple of good hand offs before being tackled, the ball is recycled back to Jack Warburton who runs in under the posts for his first try 20 mins into the second half.

Lychett are penalised for their niggly performance after the referee became the target of unnecessary comment – compliments to the Dorchester team for not getting drawn in.  Good tackling again from Theo Boyeson and Ryan Haskell forced Lytchett to scramble and move the ball along the line before they broke through and scored out wide.  37-10.

Good kick and chase from Dorchester saw Jamie Brown put pressure on Lytchett again.  Dan Allen made a good cover tackle which allowed Dorchester to win the ball at the breakdown, another scything run from Jack Warburton put Dorchester close to the Lychett try line.  Dorchester win the scrum with Caspar Bailey and Jack Warburton putting pressure on Lytchett before James Thompson scores a try which the referee judges to be held up.  The ten metre scrum is won by Dorchester, Caspar Bailey to Jack Warburton, Warburton through three players and scores his second try, converted by Caspar Bailey and the final score of the game.

The referee who admits he is unsure of the final score decides on 42-10.  My apologies if the scores in the report add up to 44-10!

Both teams should be complimented on their performance in difficult conditions.

Tries – Jamie Brown. 2.  Caspar Bailey. 2. George Foot. 1. Jake Bosher.1. Jack Warburton. 2.
Conversions – Caspar Bailey.2.

Dorchester 76  Trowbridge 0

After giving away two early penalties and some frantic defensive Dorchester won a turnover in the ruck and with some quick passing along the backs, Jamie Brown ran 50 metres to score.  Converted by Caspar Bailey.
0-7

Shortly afterwards Ryan Haskell was driven over the line by Will Caldwell. Caspar conversion 0-14. Jamie Galloway made a good catch and run keeping up the pressure on Trowbridge. Solid scrums and communications between the players created a real team. Caspar Bailey made a strong run from a scrum 15 metres from the line and scored. 0-19 Jamie Brown scored under the post after a well timed pass from Caspar Bailey
0-26. Strong runs from Ryan and Luke kept the game in Trowbridge's half.

Half time

A reverse kick off to an open field and Caspar scored in the corner. 0-31. Will Caldwell caught the ball cleanly from the kick off. And after a few passes, Jack Warburton scored under the posts. (His first game back from injury) 0-38. Jack Warburton scored under the post again a few minutes later.  0-45. Caspar picked up his own kickoff and scored. 0-52. After a few minutes of Dorchester defending their line Ryan Haskell scored again after another strong run, this time from 70 metres. The backs played great passing rugby supported by good distribution from George Foot throughout the match.

After another turnover Ben Wellman scored under the posts 0-64. Casper scored again.  0-69. After a run down the wing by Freddie, James Thompson scored the final try the was converted by Jack.

Ryan Haskell man of the match.

Conversion by Caspar Bailey unless stated

Ivel Barbarians 5 v 39 Dorchester

With the season now 7 weeks old this was frustratingly only Dorchester's second match at under 14 level. With this in mind it was hardly surprising that they struggled to get into this game against well drilled opposition and gave away a string of early penalties. Their defence however held firm and it was Dorchester who opened the scoring after about 15 minutes. A quickly heeled scum allowed the backs to pass the ball along the three-quarter line. Inside centre Ryan Haskell looped round in support and broke through some weak cover defence to score in the corner. Dorchester were spurred on by this success and dominated the set piece possession with the front row of Joe Waterman, Freddie Biles and Jamie Russell giving their opposite numbers a torrid time. A good clean break by outside centre Jamie Brown gave Dorchester a line out 5 metres out. This was well won by Dan Allen and the ball was again passed speedily along the back line.

Ivel infringed at the break down which allowed George Foot to take a quick tap penalty to his half back partner Caspar Bailey to crash over. The resultant kick off was fielded by number eight Will Caldwell who made good ground linking with his back row partners Theo Boyeson and Lee Sawyer. The ball was held up short of the line and bundled into touch. From the line-out Scrum half Caspar Bailey went down the blind side and ran straight through the defending blind side wing to score in the corner giving his side a 15-0 advantage at half time.

The second half was completely dominated by Dorchester who showed excellent handling skills in the backs especially fly half George Foot and his centre partners Ryan Haskell and Jamie Brown. This allowed opportunities for speedy wing Toby Ingram to round his man and score in the corner. Foot collected Ivel's restart kick off deep in his own half and gave a well time pass to Ingram who this time had much more to do. He tore through the heart of the defence and sped away from the cover defence to score a superb individual try under the posts. Bailey converted easily. Further fine runs by Brown Bailey and Haskell and some impressive mauling by Marcus Sams and Dan Allen kept Ivel pinned in their own half allowing Bailey to add two further tries and a conversion.

A particular feature of Dorchester's strength lay in the sound foundation of the set scrum. This was just as evident when second half replacements Kieran Mitchell and Jamie Gannaway joined the front row. Ivel did manage a consolation score in the final minute but Dorchester were well worth their 39-5 victory.
