Dorchester 21 Wimborne 19
A game of two Half’s..!!
After losing to Wimborne on their last outing and the opposition having a county cup semi final the following week Dorchester half expected them to put out their B team, but no out came a well drilled and organised A team who dominated in the first half, leaving Dorchester just scraps to play off.
It was Wimborne who opened the scoring, driving over from a lineout close to the Dorchester line to score 10 minutes into the game. Wimborne extended their lead breaking again from the half way line, ably assisted by weak Dorchester tackling and gave them the chance to score and convert.
The Dorchester scrum was working well, Max Baggley , Joe Underhill supported Charlie Lake, but unfortunately a quick tackle by the Wimborne 10 gave them the ball opening up another opportunity from which they scored.
A penalty given to Dorchester for hands in the ruck was just missed by Max Buckler, but a second penalty given for the same reason a few minutes later Max found his radar and easily put the ball between the posts. The first half ended with a score of 19 – 3 to the opposition.
The second half was a complete turn around. Dorchester came out strongly and determined, the forwards held strong in all the scrums with Sam Kershaw driving them on to give a much better second half performance. Once again Wimborne gave away another penalty for hands in the ruck giving the home side a chance of another 3 points which Max Buckler slotted.
With Dorchester finally making their tackles putting Wimborne on the back foot . Jake Ralston drove the Wimborne winger into touch and the resulting the lineout was won by Dorchester, good handling by the back row and a quick off load from Josh Perry gave Sam Scott the chance of a break crossing the line to score, conversion made by Max. 19 – 13 to Wimborne.
Wimborne rallied, retaining possession and continued to drive at Dorchester only for Josh Younger to make three consecutive tackles forcing Wimborne to spill the ball for Morgan Jones to take and score the second try 18 – 19.
The remainder of the second half was played out with the ball being lost and won by both sides, a lack of discipline from the Winborne 13 led to a yellow card giving a penalty to Dorchester which Max turned into another 3 points.
