Don’t let the score line suggest this was an easy victory, Ivel fought hard for the whole 70 minutes and were hampered by only having 2 replacements whereas the hosts could call on 9! The fresh legs in the 2nd half allowed Dorchester to put some distance between them and Ivel.
It was Ivel who got on the scorecard first when some lazy tackling allowed an easy run in. This week the home side up and from a set move from a scrum Zach Paton cut back in to take a pop pass and in under the post which was converted. Back came Dorchester and spreading the ball from one side of the pitch to the other Josh Peel (making a return after 4 seasons) stretched his legs and over the whitewash again the try was converted.
Ivel weren’t done and came back almost immediately with a well taken converted score, unfortunately for them that was the last time they troubled the score sheet. The home side were gaining in confidence and good play between forwards and backs allowed them to score two further tries before the break by Charlie Lake and Kieran Fry both unconverted..
The second half was totally the home sides and with 9 pairs of fresh legs and a better level of fitness it was only a matter of time before they added to the total and when they did finally increase the lead this was followed by 6 further scores. Freddie Madgwick was first up when he used his pace and strength to crash over. Scores followed by Fry,Lake, Sam Scott, Josh Younger and John Bowden to put the game to bed. Dorchester successful kicks were taken by Harry Smith (2) Bowden and Max Bucklar.
Credit to Ivel who competed to the end and should feel very proud of themselves well done. Next week sees the league programme start in earnest and a tough trip to Wimborne awaits
