| Although the score line suggests a comfortable win for Bridport they were flattered by the margin of victory, 2 breakaway tries from their own 22 were the difference at the end. As Steve Underhill (Dorchester Head Coach) said after the game if games were won on territory and possession alone Dorchester would have won, unfortunately it is all about taking your chances which the visitors did and the hosts didn’t.
Bridport raced into 10-0 lead via a penalty and converted try, before Dorchester got into their stride and started to exert pressure. With the home pack more than holding their own Dorchester were able to mount some attacks and were rewarded when full back Kieran Fry cut a great lien to go over for an unconverted try. Still Dorchester pressurised and some great work by 2nd row Ben Lashmar and No 8 Hugh Vivian kept the visitors at bay. Rather like England the home side conceded too many silly penalties at the breakdown and with Bridports fly half enjoying a good day with the boot they ended the half 13-5 up.
The second got off to a flyer when Dorchester moved the ball quickly from a set piece and winger James Bickley jinxed his way over, Harry Smith added the conversion, points difference 1 game on. Dorchester continued to press, and Bridport on one of their rare visits to the hosts half managed to come away with 3 points. The killer blow came shortly afterwards when after a prolonged pressure Bridport broke out and ran in under the posts for a converted score. Try as the may Dorchester couldn’t find a way through, and one final penalty from Bridport sealed victory.
Whilst there were some positives there are still areas to work on if Dorchester are going to come away with some silverware this season
