Dorchester 51 v North Dorset II 0

Dorchester continued their amazing run with a fifth consecutive clean sheet as they comfortably defeated North Dorset on Saturday.

The home side elected to play into the wind in the first period and as a result they spent the first ten minutes confined to their own half. Eventually Dorchester worked their way upfield and James Baker showed his pace on the right wing. An excellent cover tackle by the fullback bought him down but Rich Bament was on hand to take the offload and score under the posts. Bament converted his own try and minutes later crossed for his second, again adding the conversion. Left winger James Spensley was next to put his name on the scoresheet crossing in the corner. Bament was unable to convert but almost immediately completed his hat trick as Dorchester began to overrun their opponents. Another conversion and a simple penalty stretched to lead to twenty nine points at the break.

With the wind at their backs in the second half Dorchester might have been expected to run away the game. A combination of the visitors increased resolve, Dorchester’s relaxation and some curious refereeing meant that this was not to be the case and for twenty minutes the game drifted aimlessly in midfield. Finally Dorchester managed to raise their intensity and added four further tries in the last quarter. Prop Stephen Hodgson forced his way over from close range, Bament crossed for his fourth of the match and Spensley sprinted in from fifty metres after a perfectly executed threequarter move put him in space. Bament could only convert the last of these three scores.  Then as the game moved into injury time Baker again showed his pace on the right, this time John Firkin was the beneficiary of the offload and touched down for try number eight.
