Dorchester bounced back from last week’s defeat in the best possible way, overpowering Devizes with an outstanding all round display of rugby.
Despite playing into the very strong wind in the first half the home side were on the attack immediately. Keeping the ball in hand as much as possible. Dorchester continually stretched the visitors defence until left winger Tom Gower crossed in the right hand corner for the opening try.
Dorchester continued to dominate proceedings and it was no surprise when right wing James Baker added the second try, finishing off a fine move covering fifty metres and involving both forwards and backs. Adam Jones added the extras.
In a rare visit to the Dorchester twenty two Devizes scored their only points courtesy of a simple penalty by their winger. The visitors also had the misfortune to lose their hooker with a broken ankle further disrupting their ability to compete.
With the wind in their faces in the second period it was always going to be a very difficult forty minutes for Devizes and so it proved as Dorchester ran in eight further tries in a totally one sided half. Forwards Lee King and Mat Chalker both scored from close range while for the backs Matt Read, Lee Harvey, Adam Jones and Dave Gower all got on the score sheet.
Tom Gower also added two more tries to his opener to complete a memorable first hat trick. Adam Jones, judging the wind superbly, added seven conversions to underline Dorchester’s dominance.
Dorchester now have a week off before facing Frome and Wimborne in successive weeks.
