The Gower Brothers after the game against IvelStarting the game with three brothers, Dave (Captain), Tom and Joe Gower, Dorchester moved up to third position should have probably had this game wrapped up in the first half but as of late the opposition were gifted opportunities!

Ivel put themselves under pressure from the start handing a scrum to Dorchester on the half way line. Quick ball to Read running from deep saw him jink through the defence only to be held just short of the line, Tom Gower the grateful recipient to score in the corner, the conversion was missed.

Within minutes Ivel were back into the game after a miss pass from Dorchester was intercepted, touching down under the posts and the resulting conversion made it 5-7 to the visitors. The try had a positive result on the visitors who had a further penalty awarded, but from in front of the posts it was put wide.

Handling errors from both sides, Dorchester held up on the line and shortly before half time reduced to fourteen men made for a lively first half but at half time Ivel still held onto a 5-7 advantage.

The second half started well for the home side with Lee Harvey scoring in the corner, Jones not able to make a difficult conversion.Matt Read Again Ivel forced their way back, a well worked move saw their centre scoring and converting his own try.

Dorchester responded by adding a further two quick tries, firstly Adam Jones converting his own try and then by Read stretching the lead to 24 – 14. The home side were now in the ascendancy thanks to a dominant scrum and the lineout working well. Although a couple of chances went begging, the pressure eventually told with Dorchester wrapping up the victory, Adam Jones on the overlap, then Dave Gower forcing his way over the line ensured a comfortable lead.

Ivel to their credit didn’t give up and scored towards the end but with the game already lost it was consolation for their hard work.

With Dorchester entertaining fifth placed North Dorset next weekend, it will be important for them to raise their game substantially.
