Another Saturday, another clean sheet! Dorchester have now played nearly five and a half hours of rugby without conceding so much as a single point. This weeks visitors Westbury put a brave and gutsy performance but were always struggling to match the hosts’ pace and power.
Two early tries from winger James Baker both converted by Rich Bament set Dorchester on their way. The hosts were, on occasions, guilty of overconfidence and trying too much in their own twenty two. However, further tries followed a regular intervals through the rest of the first half. Luke Weller, Rich Bament, Lee Harvey and Stephen Hodgson all getting on the scoresheet and Dorchester arrived at the break thirty four points to the good.
The second half continued in the same vein, Hodgson barged his way over for his second following a huge drive from Tom Bamlet and then James Spensley cut through midfield to touch down between the posts. Bament added the extras to both tries. Dorchester then produced the best move of the match, finished off by replacement Tom Gower after several offloads and excellent support running from both forwards and backs.
Despite being more than fifty points down Westbury, heroically led by their captain and second row, refused to buckle and spent ten minutes camped on the Dorchester line. Hard as they tried however they were unable to break down Dorchester’s defence and the siege was finally lifted with a long clearance from colts fly half Wes Lewis who had come on for the last ten minutes and capped a excellent debut with a the final try of the day. Bament completed proceedings with his fifth conversion.
