Dorchester completed a routine victory at bottom of the table Wimborne to go top of the table with three games remaining. It was clear right from the start that most of the player’s minds was on next weeks game and the level of performance did not approach that of the last few weeks.
The visitors dominated the forward exchanges from the kick off and created a host of scoring opportunities. That they only managed three tries in the first forty minutes was due to poor execution and lack of concentration throughout the team. Centre Lee Harvey crossed twice and James Baker added the third with Bament adding a single conversion.
The Dorchester coaching team delivered some hard words in the interval and there was a distinct improvement over the next forty minutes. Stand-in scrum half Gareth Biddle bagged a brace, Rich Bament strolled over for his sixteenth try of the season and props Stephen Hodgson and Tom Bamlet both put theirs names on the scoresheet. Bamlet’s being his first in a Dorchester shirt. Rich Bament, not having his best day with the boot, managed only a single conversion in the second period.
Dorchester, their postponed games now all played, lead the table by a single point from next weeks opponents Bridport and everything is set up for a possible decider.
