Dorchester, without vice captain Steve Hodgson after breaking his arm in the previous weeks encounter at Ivel were further depleted with Rich Bament absent through injury but were boosted by the return of Captain Dave Gower starting on the bench and Russell Eversden, Rob Hodges Captain.
Sherborne were out of the blocks quickly, with Dorhester conceding territory they infringed at the break down and went thee points down. This seemed to galvanize the home side who from the restart won the resulting scrum on the Sherborne 22 with Dillon going over to open Dorchester's account, Jones missing the conversion.
Sherborne responded with a try of their own but then gave away a penalty which Jones slotted making it 8 - 8. Sherborne added another three points, then Read running from his own half broke started and finished to score an unconverted try. Half time 13 - 11 to the home side.
The second half saw both sides reduced to 14, first Dorchester's Lee King for and infringement which lead to Sherborne taking a 13 - 14 advantage. This was to be the away sides last score of the day as Dorchester dominated the remainder of the second half.
With Dorchester's forwards working well and aggressive in the scrum and at the breakdown, Sherborne were constantly retreating. Dorchester were awarded a penalty which hit the upright, from the ensuing scrum Gareth Biddle had to be stretchered off with a knee injury and was replaced by Captain Dave Gower make his first appearance of the season.
Advantage to Dorchester as Sherborne were reduced to fourteen men, Jones narrowly missed the following penalty. Shortly after Tom Gower raced in to scored in the corner, Jones converting the most difficult chance of the day.
Dorchester wrapped it up with a few minutes remaining when Read, again breaking from deep inside his own half linked up with Tom Gower to score his second try of the day, converted by Jones. Making it a convincing second half, the final score being 27-14.
Mike Sprules was delighted after beating Sherborne for the first time in five years. "Our effort put in pre season on fitness levels is paying off, the forwards dominated the game and it was from there that we won the game".
